  • The Spring 2022 release of Heaven Hill’s Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has been announced, taking the form of a 17 year old bourbon. This new offering, according to the Kentucky distillery, is comprised of barrels produced in fall of 2004. It was pulled from across three floors of rick house V at Heaven Hill Distillery’s main campus and bottled in spring of 2022. Noted as the ninth national release in this series, it also marks the first 17 year old in this line up. As is typical with other modern Old Fitzgerald releases, this one comes bottled in an ornate decanter that denotes a green label that is consistent across previous spring expressions. In addition, this edition’s tax strip, which has always been a signature of transparency on bottled-in-bond products, will disclose when the liquid was produced and bottled. The Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond spring edition will be available in the 750ml size on an allocated basis. It meets the strict requirements of a bottled-in-bond: the product of a single distillery from a single distilling season, aged a minimum of four years, and bottled at 100 proof or 50% alcohol by volume. The edition is available at a suggested retail price of $185. Acquired in 1999 by Heaven Hill, the Old Fitzgerald line is well-known for what’s described as its distilling pedigree and intriguing story behind its namesake, John E. Fitzgerald.   • The 2022 release of Ardbeg 25 Year Old is a smoky single malt with layers of sweetness that was matured in ex-bourbon barrels and bottled in 2021. Aromas of cream, smoke, peppermint, toffee, fennel, pine resin, earthy bonfires and ripe bananas fill the nose, complemented by notes of white pepper, sherbet lemons, candied apples, oranges, pears, tar, carbolic soap, creamy toffee, aniseed, rich smoke and antiseptic throughout the palate. The newest and also oldest whisky to be released to Ardbeg's core range. This supreme expression proves unequivocally that age cannot tame Ardbeg’s raw smoky power. But it can yield some of the most complex and majestic flavours ever to burst forth from the Islay based distillery. Bottled from incredibly rare casks filled during some of the Distillery’s darkest days, this is Ardbeg at its most intricate, balanced and beguiling.   • Ardbeg has unveiled its smokiest whisky yet, Ardbeg Hypernova 2022. The new offering joins the recently revealed Ardbeg Fermutation as a Committee Release 2022. “Proper your palate at full force towards the smokiest dram ever to mature into existence at Ardbeg,” says the front label. “Discover fabric-tearingly intense notes of tar, creosote and soot. Venture further into the glass and explore ethereal whispers of aniseed, smoke and dark chocolate.” The back of the label continues, “Possibly the smokiest dram in the world (this one at least), Hypernova possesses a malty magnitude never before experienced. This is a brutally smoky dram that radiates flavour in every direction. Undoubtedly Ardbeg’s smokiest spirit, HN22 is a cataclysmic event for the Distillery. It’s big, it’s intense and it’s pulling palates into a whole new dimension… “Explore notes of pungent peat smoke, aniseed and toasted lavender, while bitter almonds and dark chocolates fuse with curious hints of plasticine and burnt rubber. Descend into a finish that collapses in on itself, before returning to earthy notes of roasted coffee and smoky heather.” All we really know about the Scotch for now is that its bottled at 51% ABV and will be the release for Ardbeg Day 2022. Official tasting notes for Ardbeg Hypernova 2022/Ardbeg committee release 2022: Nose: Powerful, pungent and almost brutal in its intensity, waves of tar, smoke, sea salt and an almost ‘barnyard’ aroma fill the void. Ethereal whispers of fruit, reminiscent of flowering blackcurrants, float into bold bursts of peppermint. Water releases a flurry of more rounded top notes, with a touch of lavender and a slightly chocolaty sensation, before finally arriving at curious hints of plasticine and burnt rubber. Taste: An explosive, peppery mouthfeel launches the palate into a most bizarre juxtaposition of flavors – sweet chocolate, cooling mint, pungent peat smoke, bitter almonds, and then an infinitely long, lingering burst of spices like aniseed and clove. Finish: Descend into a finish that collapses in on itself with enormous, heavy smoke. Before returning to earthy notes of roasted coffee and smoked heather. Ardbeg Hypernova 2022 $200.00

The pure and mineral-rich water of the small river Pitille Burn contributes significantly to the high quality of this whiskey.
