  • Ardbeg has unveiled its smokiest whisky yet, Ardbeg Hypernova 2022. The new offering joins the recently revealed Ardbeg Fermutation as a Committee Release 2022. “Proper your palate at full force towards the smokiest dram ever to mature into existence at Ardbeg,” says the front label. “Discover fabric-tearingly intense notes of tar, creosote and soot. Venture further into the glass and explore ethereal whispers of aniseed, smoke and dark chocolate.” The back of the label continues, “Possibly the smokiest dram in the world (this one at least), Hypernova possesses a malty magnitude never before experienced. This is a brutally smoky dram that radiates flavour in every direction. Undoubtedly Ardbeg’s smokiest spirit, HN22 is a cataclysmic event for the Distillery. It’s big, it’s intense and it’s pulling palates into a whole new dimension… “Explore notes of pungent peat smoke, aniseed and toasted lavender, while bitter almonds and dark chocolates fuse with curious hints of plasticine and burnt rubber. Descend into a finish that collapses in on itself, before returning to earthy notes of roasted coffee and smoky heather.” All we really know about the Scotch for now is that its bottled at 51% ABV and will be the release for Ardbeg Day 2022. Official tasting notes for Ardbeg Hypernova 2022/Ardbeg committee release 2022: Nose: Powerful, pungent and almost brutal in its intensity, waves of tar, smoke, sea salt and an almost ‘barnyard’ aroma fill the void. Ethereal whispers of fruit, reminiscent of flowering blackcurrants, float into bold bursts of peppermint. Water releases a flurry of more rounded top notes, with a touch of lavender and a slightly chocolaty sensation, before finally arriving at curious hints of plasticine and burnt rubber. Taste: An explosive, peppery mouthfeel launches the palate into a most bizarre juxtaposition of flavors – sweet chocolate, cooling mint, pungent peat smoke, bitter almonds, and then an infinitely long, lingering burst of spices like aniseed and clove. Finish: Descend into a finish that collapses in on itself with enormous, heavy smoke. Before returning to earthy notes of roasted coffee and smoked heather. Ardbeg Hypernova 2022 $200.00
  • Lagavulin Jazz Festival 2022 Release 14 Year Old. Distilled on the Isle of Islay at Lagavulin distillery, this release has been bottled specially for the Islay Jazz Festival 2022. This expression was put down to mature for 14 years, firstly in refill American oak casks, before being transferred to brandy seasoned hogsheads for a finishing period. Part of a limited release of 3,000 bottles, this whisky has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.4% abv. Lagavulin Jazz Festival 2022 - 14 Year Old $320.00

  • Caol Ila 30 Years Old 1991 XOP Black A 1991 Caol Ila single malt from independent bottler Douglas Laing that was matured in a single sherry hogshead for three decades, before being bottled in September 2021 as part of its Xtra Old Particular Black series. Aromas of stewed fruit, allspice, dark chocolate and rich peat smoke fill the nose, complemented by notes of damp autumn leaves, leather, oak spice, mocha, smoked meat and earthy bonfire ash throughout the palate. This XOP Black Single Malt from the Caol Ila Distillery has spent 30 long years maturing in a Sherry Hogshead. It was distilled in January 1991 and bottled in September 2021. Bottled at a natural Cask Strength of 48.4%, only 190 bottles exist globally. XOP is bottled at Natural Cask Strength, exceptionally old and truly spectacular. Packed with extraordinary flavour. Caol Ila 30 Years Old 1991 XOP Black Tasting Notes NOSE The Sherried heritage is apparent with stewed fruits and allspice, then comes Islay peat smoke and dark chocolate. PALATE Wonderfully thick and moreish with damp Autumn leaves, spiced oak, a leathery sweetness and bonfire ash.
