  • Macallan Concept 3 The third instalment of Macallan's esteemed Concepts series, the Concept Number 3 Single Malt Scotch Whisky brings together whisky and design with its latest collaborative offering, this time combining with pioneering contemporary graphic designer David Carson. Renowned for his distinctive, experimental style, Carson's label is yet another iconic artistic expression that graces the classic Macallan silhouette, with the Concept Number third's bold, unmistakable aesthetic exclusively available in travel retail markets (2020 release). The whisky is formidable, a sherry-butt ex bourbon barrel single malt bottled at 80.6 proof, instilled with a remarkable degree of complexity - the profile spans sour citrus, sherry undertones and creamy vanilla, with a slightly oily and sweet mouthfeel that coats the throat before giving way to a lengthy finish swimming with orange zest.   • GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 11. The GlenDronach Distillery has unveiled Batch 11 in its Grandeur series of whiskies. A 28-year-old Single Malt Scotch hand-selected by Master Blender Rachel Barrie, the GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 11 is made from a small number of rare Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. The GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 11 was matured in sherry casks for nearly three decades and is made to epitomize the brand’s mastery of sherry cask maturation. It embodies their commitment to crafting exceptional, richly sherried Single Malts, using time-honored methods passed down for almost two centuries. On the nose, the whisky is opulent and powerful with notes of sherry, interwoven with dark manuka honey, roasted almond, and walnut. From there, baked plum and ginger captivate the senses, deepening to rustic vintage leather and freshly ground coffee. The palate is intense and full-bodied with dark fruit notes on a base of velvet and fine leather, followed by a crescendo of black cherry and espresso. The finish is richly rewarding, with waves of chocolate, licorice, and walnut. “The GlenDronach Grandeur is an unparalleled range of the finest aromas and character from masterful Spanish oak sherry cask maturation,” said Master Blender Rachel Barrie. “A Single Malt of elegant finesse, this expression offers a symphony of sherry aromatics interwoven with dark manuka honey, roasted almond, and walnut.   • Ardbeg Supernova 2019 Committee Release. The Ardbeg distillery was founded in 1815 by John Macdougall on the island of Islay (pronounced ‘eye-lah’). As with many other distilleries there have been a number of owners over the years and a lot of ups and downs. One thing has remained consistent, the name and the unique letter A that’s been trademarked. 2019 brought to the retail market a limited release of Ardbeg Supernova. Said to be the peatiest whiskey in the Ardbeg line up, it has been described as a “peat bomb” or “peat explosion.” It was last seen on retail shelves back in 2015 as part of a celebration to mark the brand sending some of spirit into space to orbit the Earth for three years about the International Space Station. Tasting Notes: Ardbeg Supernova 2019 Committee Release Vital Stats: This single malt whisky matured in ex-bourbon barrels is 100% malted barley. Released October 2019; Limited release; Non chill-filtered at 53.8% ABV; no age statement; 750 ml. Appearance: Pale bronze Nose: It’s a full body peat that wafts into your nose. The smell is quite voluptuous, strong, yet pleasant. To me, there is not a “knock your socks off” smokey peat smell nor is it acrid. For a scotch, the smell seems very balanced between peat and sweetness which seems weird for the being the peatiest whisky brand. Palate: The flavor of this single malt scotch is very buttery and spicy with a smoky finish. It’s very smooth going down. For possibly being one of the peatiest whiskies in the world this is one of the smoothest I’ve ever encountered. Ardbeg Supernova 2019 Committee Release $250.00
