  • Lagavulin Offerman Edition 2022 Charred Oak Cask is a single malt whisky with the perfect combination of freshly cut oak, sea salt brine and Lagavulin's signature smoke. It was created by combining American and European oak casks that previously held scotch or wine. Aged 11 years in new charred oak casks, Nick Offerman's signature edition of Lagavulin is briny muscatel smoke and sweet, soft red fruits with hints of vanilla and a light, warming finish. Lagavulin Offerman Edition 2022 Charred Oak Cask is available as a limited release. One could argue that the glowing, lingering, spicy, and simply sensational finish is precisely the pinnacle of what human evolution was leading up to this entire time. It’s like a mouthful of Scottish poetry, pairing superbly with the steak, obviously, but I aver you’ll find it just as pleasing with any of the Seven Delicious foods.   • Ardbeg Supernova 2014 Committee Release. A resurrected dram from the past - a new Ardbeg Supernova. The first edition was the peatiest Ardbeg ever and this new release treads the same path. A big whack of smoke with a terrific backbone of fruit and sweetness. Tasting Notes by Quality Liquor Shop NOSE Damp peat and sea spray, sour cream, grass and mint. Straw follows along with coal smoke. PALATE Orange peel leads, with damp earth, peat smoke, liquorice, cherries and bitter dark chocolate. FINISH Sweet smoke, dark chocolate and ash, with lingering menthol. Producer's Tasting Notes: Ardbeg Supernova 2014 Committee Release AROMA Intense zestiness of smoked lemons and pears, lemongrass and pine needles, embedded in a deep, resinuous, sticky waxy base. TASTE Distinctively peppery, spicy and electric. Powerful peppermint, antiseptic lozenges and other familiar, medicinal tones. Dark, dark birch tar intermingles with spicy-sweet chilli flavoured chocolate, while the entire mouth and palate are coated in luscious linseed oil. FINISH Rich flavours of tar, creosote, briar wood, spicy tobacco and liquorice root. Tasting notes by Billy A NOSE Big mulchy peat, with sweetness and brine. There are some soured cream notes, with grassiness and a touch of herbal mint. More savoury herbal notes come in, along with coal smoke and burning seaweed. There's also a bit of straw and hay, adding to a decently farmy background. PALATE Softer than the nose suggests, at least at first. Gentle, sweet orange peel starts, but intensifies with charred peel, damp earth and pungently sweet peat smoke. Liquorice notes sneak in behind, with ferns, TCP and brine. Dark chocolate bitterness is joined by a hint of cherry fruit, with rich loam and wood smoke adding a dryness. FINISH Sweet smoke - both peat and wood - dark chocolate and ashy touches. Menthol hints linger. COMMENT It's quite light in colour, and relatively fresh on the nose, but it's still a bit of a beast. There are darker notes underneath the initial feisty smoke, and a decent amount of complexity. It's Ardbeg looking fondly back on the crazy days of late noughties.   • Caol Ila 30 Years Old 1991 XOP Black A 1991 Caol Ila single malt from independent bottler Douglas Laing that was matured in a single sherry hogshead for three decades, before being bottled in September 2021 as part of its Xtra Old Particular Black series. Aromas of stewed fruit, allspice, dark chocolate and rich peat smoke fill the nose, complemented by notes of damp autumn leaves, leather, oak spice, mocha, smoked meat and earthy bonfire ash throughout the palate. This XOP Black Single Malt from the Caol Ila Distillery has spent 30 long years maturing in a Sherry Hogshead. It was distilled in January 1991 and bottled in September 2021. Bottled at a natural Cask Strength of 48.4%, only 190 bottles exist globally. XOP is bottled at Natural Cask Strength, exceptionally old and truly spectacular. Packed with extraordinary flavour. Caol Ila 30 Years Old 1991 XOP Black Tasting Notes NOSE The Sherried heritage is apparent with stewed fruits and allspice, then comes Islay peat smoke and dark chocolate. PALATE Wonderfully thick and moreish with damp Autumn leaves, spiced oak, a leathery sweetness and bonfire ash.   • Glenmorangie 23 Year Old 1998 Bond House No.1 Grand Vintage Malt Grand Vintage Malt 1998 is like embarking on a transatlantic journey from the world of classic bourbon, to the sherry bodegas in Jerez, both finessed with virgin new charred oak. Rich with vibrant fruits, smooth toffee, and ginger, this whisky’s eloquence is a symbol of our elegant, experimental style. Delicate and spicy with a wonderful amber glow, this whisky showcases some of the first Glenmorangie ever aged in new charred oak. Dr Bill was particularly eager to explore the wonders new charred oak barrels might bring to Glenmorangie’s soft, fruity spirit. And so he earmarked a handful of carefully crafted casks, tailormade to enrich the Distillery’s single malt. By charring the virgin wood of these bespoke casks for the first time, Dr Bill hoped to create a striking style of single malt, intense in colour and spice. He left those experimental new char casks to age in the cool, quiet of an earth-floored warehouse for more than two decades. As he waited, the spirit transformed into a deliciously buttery whisky, surging with vanilla, chocolate laced with orange, ginger and sweet chilli. In addition he layered those oaky notes with soft, fruity Glenmorangie aged in first-fill bourbon casks. Then brought sweet subtlety with a hint of whisky finished in oloroso sherry casks. Aged 23 years, his creation bursts with ripe fruits and rich orange chocolate, gently threaded with sugared almonds and spice.
